My Top Three Best Restaurants in Riga to have a romantic date.
Update from April, 2022
Some time has passed since I wrote this blog post.
Time has flowed on, and much has changed.
Everything is in constant motion, and my opinions are no exception. And now my absolute favorite and Top 1 is Barents – the best seafood restaurant I have ever dined at.
This restaurant has surpassed all others with its extraordinary atmosphere and exemplary food, prepared and served with careful attention to detail.
The staff truly cares about you to get an exceptional dining experience and knows everything about their cuisine and dishes. They fade out when you do not need them and appear precisely in the moments when you need them. Their sommelier, in particular, is charming and attentive.
If you are curious about how food is prepared, booking a reservation at the chef’s table gives you a close-up view of the chefs cooking the dishes. It’s like having a front-row seat to a live cooking show!
In my humble opinion, it definitely deserves at least one Michelin Star.
P.S. Although Barents has not received a Michelin star yet, for me it was exciting to know that both Barents restaurant and Barents Cocktail & Seafood Bar are in the 2024 Michelin Guide Latvia now.

I am not a fan of cooking at home, so I often dine at restaurants. This habit has allowed me to explore nearly every fine restaurant in Riga. I am well-equipped to review any restaurant that catches your interest.
My list of fine dining establishments encompasses several exceptional venues that, while deserving, did not get into my final Top Three. Notable examples include Vincents, Entresol, Riviera, St. Petrus Restaurant, and The Three Chefs Restaurant. Finding The Three Chefs Restaurant among my top picks might have been amusing, but it did not make the cut this time.
After careful consideration, I narrowed the long list down to my Top Three favorite restaurants. Surprisingly that I got two Italian restaurants in my Top Three. While these Italian places could be excellent in pizza and pasta, I cannot assess those dishes since my preferred choice when dining out is seafood. Interestingly, two restaurants that made my Top Three are in The Quiet Center of Riga, also recognized as the Art Nouveau District, the tourist area is just a 10-minute stroll away from the Riga Old Town.

In addition, some gentlemen prefer to start the escort rendezvous with a joint dinner. It is an excellent way to get to know each other better before the romantic moments in the hotel room. It also helps to break the ice, especially when a man lacks experience with escorting girls. I am more than willing to commence our date at a fine restaurant, though I anticipate consuming only a light meal, given my preference not to eat heavily before going to bed.
And so, without further ado, I present my selection of the Top Three restaurants in Riga that I find ideal for setting the tone of a romantic encounter:
Hopefully after reading that, you feel more prepared for planning a dinner date with a girl in Riga, don’t you?

It was surprisingly easy to pick the first spot in my Top Three. There are a lot of excellent Italian restaurants in Riga, but one of them is undoubted my favorite. The restaurant is named after a small Italian village and is located in The Quiet Center of Riga, in Art-Noveau type of building. The interior is impressive: high ceilings, big windows, high-quality wooden trim, and old-fashioned mirrors. It offers classic Italian cuisine, but some of the dishes are adjusted to local gastronomical traditions. No doubt, the best seafood in Riga, including octopuses, calamari, shrimps, lobsters, and also one of the best Italian wine selection I have ever met. I am bribed by the fact that they have a special gluten-free menu. And last but not least, the service is excellent. For me, it is the best place for a romantic evening. I am addicted to expensive cars, so I cannot stop myself from mentioning that Ferrari named one of their new V8 sports cars after Portofino in 2017.
The Catch Restaurant was my perfect catch. It is located in The Quiet Center of Riga and offers delicious Japanese seafood cuisine, including sushi and the finest quality fish. I’ve never been a sushi eater, but many people said The Catch serves probably the best sushi in Riga. So sushi lovers will especially appreciate visiting this place.Last time I chose Robata grilled octopus with kimchi glaze and smashed cucumbers, the dish was outstanding. My friend ate bluefin tuna, which was delicious and flavored; as the waiter said, this tuna was delivered by air-mail and never frozen before serving.Lately, I have started to prefer the gluten-free food that is also available here, as well as the tasty vegetarian and vegan options. Also The Catch offers cocktails of decent quality.Summarizing The Catch Restaurant is a cozy place to begin the romantic evening; however, please consider that it is pretty pricey and usually crowded because it is tiny, so it is better to make a reservation! Even if you are a demanding seafood lover with high expectations, you will not be disappointed when you come here. Take advantage of this great place to enjoy a quality dinner!
